• Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address through our authentication provider (Supabase) so you can sign in and access your saved data.
• Food photos and images. When you use the food-scanning feature, the photo you capture or upload is processed to identify the food and estimate its nutritional content.
• Health and wellness data. Information you choose to enter — such as meals, fitness activity, wellness inputs, and other health-related entries — is stored so the app can show your history, insights, and coaching.
• App usage information. Basic technical and usage information may be collected to keep the app running reliably and to fix problems.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide core features, including food scanning, fitness and wellness tracking, and personalized insights.
• To power the in-app AI coaches, René and Max, which respond to your inputs.
• To maintain your account and keep your data available across sessions.
• To improve the app's reliability and performance.

AI Processing and Third-Party Services

Some features rely on trusted third-party services to function:

• Anthropic (Claude API). To power the food scanner and the René and Max AI coaches, the relevant content you provide — such as a food photo or the text of your question — is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing and a response is returned to you. This data is used to generate your result and is not used by the app to build advertising profiles.
• Supabase. Used for secure account authentication and storage of your app data.
• Netlify. Used to host and deliver the app.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. We encourage you to review their policies for more detail.

Health Data

Bon Appétit is a wellness and informational tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Any health, nutrition, fitness, or longevity information in the app is for general educational purposes only. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about your health, diet, supplements, or exercise. Health and wellness information you enter is used only to provide the app's features to you and is never sold.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers described above, strictly to operate the app, or where required by law.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below, and we will delete it within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

Bon Appétit is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
